Choosing the amount and the term

The monthly cost of a personal loan depends on the amount, the interest rate and the number of years. A shorter term costs more each month but much less in interest overall. Check the APR rather than just the interest rate, because the APR includes compulsory fees. Representative APRs only have to be offered to at least 51% of successful applicants, so your own rate may differ.

Cheaper ways to borrow

For existing debt, a 0% balance transfer card or a lower-rate consolidation loan can reduce interest. Borrowing for a car? Compare the car finance calculator with an ordinary loan.
