Why some dates move and others do not

Some dates are fixed: Christmas Day is always 25 December and Bonfire Night is always 5 November, so only the day of the week changes. Others follow a rule: Father’s Day is the third Sunday of June, and Remembrance Sunday is the second Sunday of November. The rest are moveable feasts counted from Easter, which itself depends on the moon: Pancake Day is 47 days before Easter, Mothering Sunday is three weeks before it, and Good Friday is two days before it.

Every date on this site is calculated from those rules, then checked against the official GOV.UK bank holiday list where the two overlap, such as Good Friday and Easter Monday.
